Mechanical Behavior of Hydroxyapatite-Chitosan Composite: Effect of Processing Parameters

Three-dimensional hydroxyapatite-chitosan (HA-CS) composites were formulated via solid-liquid technic and freeze-drying. The prepared had an apatitic nature, which was demonstrated by X-ray diffraction Infrared spectroscopy analyses. impact of the solid/liquid (S/L) ratio content molecular weight polymer on composite mechanical strength investigated. An increase in S/L from 0.5 to 1 resulted compressive for HA-CSL (CS low weight: CSL) 0.08 ± 0.02 1.95 0.39 MPa 0.3 0.06 2.40 0.51 HA-CSM medium CSM). Moreover, amount (1 5 wt%) increased composite. highest value (up MPa) obtained (5 wt% CS) at 1. dissolution tests HA-CS confirmed their cohesion stability aqueous solution. Both apatite are assumed work together, giving synergism needed make effective cylindrical composites, could serve as a promising candidate bone repair orthopedic field.
